Military Tug of War Sure to Pull the Crowds

The Magic Millions Festival of British Eventing (2-4 August) is proud to announce that a military tug of war competition will take place during the weekend, with preliminary rounds taking place in the Harringtons Arena and the final taking place in the main arena on Saturday 3 August.

Taking part in the competition will be current servicemen from various regiments of the army, navy and air force, many of which have just returned from active service.  The rivalry will be fierce and the excitement palpable as they battle it out to be victors.  There is more than just the competition at stake, there is regimental pride on the line, make sure you don’t miss it!

Taking part are:

  • 6 Battalion REME (Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers) – based in Tidworth near Salisbury; recently returned from Estonia and Canada on field exercise.
  • 21 Signal Regiment – based in Colerne near Bath; the Regiment is continuously deploying members to various worldwide areas of operations to support the communication network.
  • 17 Port & Maritime Regiment – based in Marchwood near Southampton; they regularly have troops deployed to South Atlantic (Falklands) to support the Island, as well as setting up seaports around the world to support humanitarian aid where required.
  • RAF Air Command – based High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire; they offer support to the country through the various air stations around the country.
  • 3 RHA (Royal Horse Artillery) – based in Wiltshire; in support of the Royal Artillery Brigade they have recently been on field exercise in Estonia and Canada.
  • Mercians – based in Bulford; this Infantry regiment have recently been deployed to Canada for six months to support the battlefield training.
  • Yorks – based in Warminster this Infantry regiment have recently been deployed to Estonia for six months as protection to the Baltic States.

As well as the Military Tug of War and other arena attractions the weekend celebrates just what the sport of eventing has to offer; with five British Championships including the Magic Millions British Open; Smith & Williamson British Intermediate Championship, Dodson & Horrell British Novice Championship, the TopSpec Challenge for the Corinthian Cup and the ROR/NTF Retained Racehorse Championship taking place – there is so much for the eventing fan but don’t forget there is also over 100 fabulous trade stands, Rural Craft marquee and Festival Food Walk to enjoy as well as the other main arena attractions including:

  • the Shetland Pony Grand National
  • the Pony Club Mounted Games
  • Parade of the Duke of Beaufort Hounds
  • Ye Olde Redtail Falconry Display
  • Pony Club 90th Birthday Celebration

 Alongside all this there is also:

  • Dodson & Horrell Arena Eventing at both 90cm and 100cm
  • Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse Series
  • ‘Have a Go’ Dog Agility
